How To Register Mac With Xfinity Wifi
Your cable modem provides a connection between your cable Internet provider's network and your computer or router. During installation and activation, you must connect your cable modem directly to a computer.
Note: Before you connect your cable modem and contact your cable Internet provider, make sure that you have the following information:
- XFINITY account number
- The phone number associated with your XFINITY account
- XFINITY login information (your email address or user name and password)
- Modem router model number
- Modem serial number
- Modem MAC address
- Modem MTA address
Note: Your cable modem's serial number and MAC address are on the modem's label.
To install and activate your cable modem, follow these high-level steps, which are explained below:
- Connect your cable modem to a computer.
- Call Comcast XFINITY to activate Internet service and register voice telephone lines.
To connect your cable modem to a computer:
- Use the coaxial cable that your cable company provided to connect the cable port on your cable modem to a cable wall outlet.
Make sure that the cable is tightly connected. - Turn off the computer that you plan to connect to your modem.
- Use the Ethernet cable that came with your cable modem to connect the Gigabit Ethernet port on your modem to an Ethernet port on the computer.
- If you have XFINITY Voice, connect one end of your phone cable to the Tel (Voice) port on the rear panel of your cable modem and the other end of the phone cable to the telephone.
- Turn on the computer.
- Connect the power adapter to your cable modem and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
When your modem's startup procedure is complete, the Power LED turns green. - Wait for the cable modem to come online.
It may take up to 10 minutes for the modem to come online on the network. During this time, the LEDs on your modem show the following behavior: - The Downstream/Upstream LED blinks slowly when your cable modem is acquiring one or more downstream channels.
- The Downstream/Upstream LED blinks rapidly when your cable modem is acquiring one or more upstream channels.
- The Downstream/Upstream LED turns solid green or white when two or more downstream channels are acquired. (When a single Downstream/Upstream channel is acquired the LED will turn amber).
- The ONLINE LED turns solid green or white after your cable modem registers with your cable Internet provider.
To activate your Internet connection with Comcast XFINITY's phone-activation process:
- Call Comcast XFINITY customer service at 1-855-OK-BEGIN (1-855-652-3446) or 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489).
- When asked, provide your account information and provide your cable modem's model number and MAC address, which are on the modem's label.
- Wait for Comcast XFINITY to confirm that your cable modem is active.
If you do not get an Internet connection with the cable modem, ask Comcast XFINITY to look for your modem online, and do one of the following depending on what Comcast XFINITY tells you about your cable modem:- If the cable modem is not visible, Comcast XFINITY can give you instructions to verify why the modem does not connect with your high-speed Internet service.
- If the cable modem is visible to Comcast XFINITY, reboot the modem and check your online status again.
- If you connected telephone lines, ask Comcast XFINITY to register your voice telephone lines.
The Tel (Voice) LED blinks while the phone is being registered and then turns solid green once registered.
After the voice line is registered, a dial tone is audible when the phone is off the hook.
